Hokkaido Touring Day 14: Reached to the northernmost in Japan

English | 日本語
The sound of rain wakes me up around 3:00 AM. I hurriedly moved the laundry to the roof covered cooking area, but it was already damp. I woke up at 5:30 AM and made ramen noodles with yesterday's leftover vegetables. After the breakfast I cleaned up the camp site and started at 7:30 AM.
Today, I rode bike matter‐of‐factly. North Okhotsk is a bit monotonous on the road for cyclists, and if I'm riding around in a daze while thinking, I'll find before I know it, the distance is moving forward, but the view remains the same.
I stopped at a roadside station in Sarufutsu Town on the way. I had a scallop lunch box because this place is said to have the largest catch of scallops in Japan. After then I was recharging a battery while drinking a can of coffee.
The rain doesn't seem to be a concern, so I continued cycling with drying my clothes again.
With a little over 30km to go to Cape Soya, I rode the tailwind to make it easy. After a few ascents and descents on the way, I arrived at Cape Soya Park at 12 noon. Here is the northernmost place in Japan !
The sky was a bit cloudy, but I could take a photo. A few foreigners, motorcycle tourists and bicycle travelers can be seen here and there. After then, I ate a seafood chirashi susi at a nearby restaurant.
After the meal, I took a break to recharge my battery at a free rest stop nearby. My current camping setup is not ready for charging my PC enough, so I have to stay at an inn every three days or some other measure I'll have to think about ...
On the way from Cape Soya to Wakkanai, I was surprised to meet two more walking travelers. One of them is a young guy with a big backpack and is going around Japan. The other one is an older man, and he says he's from Utoro to Cape Soya. Hmmm, it sounds so interesting (don't you think?) I'm exciting in thinking that I'm going to push this trailer travoy with full of camping gear on a walking travel...
The Wakkanai Forest Park Campground is located on top of a fairly high hill. The route shown on the GoogleMap is quite steep, so I had to push my bicycle to climb. It was definitely over 10 degrees and that lead me the sweatiest of the day. The campsite has clean toilets, garbage disposal, good grounds and few bugs and most importantly it's free. Excellent ! I talked to other campers later and they told me that many of them stay here continuously.
After pitching a tent, I down with empty load the slope I climbed with pushing the bike, and I went to "hot spring of a port". The entry fee is a bit expensive (750 jpy), but the hot spring itself was good.
After refreshing I was looking for a place for dinner. Since I was at the turnaround point of this touring today, I thought I'd have a rich meal instead of cooking for myself. I looked around the city, but there was nothing to see for me, so I walked into a small snack bar. It's run by a beautiful mom to my delight, and I could have a beer or highball with octopus and hokke. Tasty and full, but my wallet is lighter more than 3,000 jpy. I've been spending a lot of money today. I came back drunk and went to bed quickly at 8 PM.
